I liked this a lot. Telling so much from a child's perspective, and the difference between how she views her Grandpa and how her parents do. Fascination vs. deficit. And the description of Grandpa's ears, large and rough, just delighted me! Reminded me of my Grandpa, although he wasn't a seafaring man.

wow - that's such a great comment,
that's all the things i hoped the story would have!
thank you so much:):)

i hope you enjoy the rest of the children's stories - it was certainly fun telling them to the kids, nothing as nice as a captive audience ha ha ha!!

You said I'd like this more than Hunter but how can I compare the two? This has the lovely clarity that is appropriate to a children's story without being horribly facile in the way that I find so much writing for this age group. And EXUBERANCE! Do you do funny voices when you read it out loud?

hell i do funny voices when i read it to myself!!! i'm doing one right now! LOL! :))

but i never read my stuff to people.
the children's stories i just make up on the spot and then draft it up later from the Dictaphone i take with me.

and i don't know how to keep saying thank you - but, THANK YOU! :)))

That's amazing. I can not make up stories on the spot to save my life. Please come and work in my school.
