When Dean is fighting to keep the relationship going on, it was before the talk with his brother, which is where his insecurities came out. So it would be natural for Dean's mind to screw with him.

I had the reason why he pulled out of the relationship in the dream sequence, he's blaming himself for Jessica's death and then he thinks that he's going to do the same thing to Castiel.

Dean had a tough choice, and only after the fight with his brother did he realize what staying with Castiel would supposedly done.

HAHAHAAH!!!! Do you know how many times that has happened to me? Chicago Supernatural convention last year, I had to drive because my roomie coudn't, then when we rolled into my town, I had to go straight to work. 'Twas horrible, and I totally understand. *pets*

Ouch! Poor Dean! Torn between his love for Castiel and Sam. Of course, it doesn't help that he has such low self-esteem.
