Internet is a go

The internet is now hooked up at my sister's house, which means that I can officially move in whenever I'm ready. I haven't even started packing yet (business trips and other bothersome stuff), but I can move myself into their house in bits and pieces.

What is it about tech guys that they think anyone who isn't technologically savvy is just a dumbo ( Read more... )

Yeah, he was certainly unpleasant. I'd never heard of satellite internet either until I started discussing moving in with my sister's family out in the middle of the country where there's no cable service. We want me to move in but I can only do it if I can find accommodations for my work. If I can't work there, I can't live there. Satellite internet. It's a wonderful thing.

And I realized that I made it seem like I'd have to be concerned about downloads forever... but really it's on a daily basis. I get enough bandwidth for about 50 songs per day. That's more than I usually do, so I think it'll be ok. My biggest concern is that there will be 3 computers and 4 adults playing on the internet.

Thanks, hon!

What a doucebag! Some tech guys can be real pieces of work and he definitely seems like one. It also might be a man/woman thing. You're a woman so, in turn, you are not smart enough to understand these more technical things. I absolutely hate that mentality.

If you have any questions about the downloading capability and if there is actually a limit on amount that can be downloaded, I suggest that you call Customer Service and find out exactly if there is a limit. I would hate for you to finally move in and find that there is a limit and you are incapacitated in your job. Best to be sure.

Inoright! It's also possible that he was having a bad day; I was the last stop on his route yesterday. Now that I've had some sleep, I'm willing to be a bit more understanding.

He left me information for the customer service center. What I'm going to do is move over to my sister's place enough to sleep and work there within the next couple of weeks and continue to pack up my house to get it ready to officially move out. That would give me time to play with her internet and see if it'll work for me. If it won't, I'm going to look for another place to live. I'm NOT staying in this house any longer. I'm just not happy here.

Wise decision. I hope it works out for you to be able to live with your sister, but being that a good internet connection is your lifeblood, that's smart to try it out before you make the move permanent.

And good for you for moving out of a place you are not happy with. I lived in this one apartment for far too long. I hated it there, the neighbors were rude and noisy and the apartment was just small and just wasn't working for me anymore, but I couldn't really move because of my finances. And this was during my deepest depression era, so part of me just didn't really care. Now I live in an apartment that I really love, so it all works out for the best in the end.

Wow. That sounds awful! Glad you're out of that situation.

My current place isn't bad, it's just not me. At. All. I loved the idea of hardwood floors but they're difficult to maintain since they get so dusty. And they get scratched. And they creak.

And my bathroom and kitchen are poorly laid out. I hardly cook anymore and I hate taking a shower (the tub has a walk-in door over it... makes it very difficult to get in and out and to clean it).

Also, I'm living with my brother, who was only crashing temporarily but now seems to be more long-term. We just don't have enough room here.

I feel like I'm crawling out of my skin in this house. It could be worse, but I also know from experience that I can find better.

I've worked with some very nice ones before, so I know they're out there. And maybe this guy was just having a bad day. I dunno.

I've had some sleep and now I'm not nearly as angry about it. I feel more "whatever"... at least I have my internet now. :)

Tech people--ugh. I know some nice ones, but they DO have a tendency to have an attitude. I think it's a personality think, IDK. Sorry yours was such a pain in the rear.

I hope you find out more about the downloading limitations. With high speed, I know there are restrictions, but I didn't think it would severely limit downloads! But I don't know much about satellite internet; I've only heard a little about it. :3

Yeah, it does seem to be a trait of tech people. No worries. At least my internet is set up. I don't have to deal with him again. It's all good. I just needed to vent for a bit.

I don't think it'll be a problem since it resets itself daily. I just don't like the idea of having a limitation. Our entire household with just have to be careful about how much playing they do each day. Oy.
