Livin' on the edge... Of sanity

Mar 25, 2011 08:19

Two weeks ago today, my biggest problems in life were realizing that I'm gaining back some of the weight that I lost when I came to Japan and wishing I could motivate myself to stop it, trying to come up with more creative ways to play with baby, and wanting to get myself to work on my RPG aspirations more ( Read more... )

lost should have been "last" in this sentence: Any mental effects on Shion from being taken from her mom temporarily will not **last** nor will she be permanently damaged. She might be cranky, she might miss nursing, but it's not forever.

All I can say is stay informed, rather than thinking about endless "what if" possibilities on your own. I know the government will usually paint a much happier image than is realistic, but there are other places to get information, I think? Anyway, try to keep your ear to the grapevine any way you can, and base your decision on real facts rather than trying to think two steps ahead. Thinking two steps ahead is much easier when your circumstances are normal, but right now they're not. Stress makes it difficult to rely on that, too.

Looks like the water's safe again now for babies, but all the same, I say try to listen for sound, based-on-tested-facts information (rather than rumors or personally made hypothesis), and maybe Mayumi will be more willing to listen to you.

Hang in there, I'm praying for you guys. I think it's really important that you guys stick together, to give you an addition two cents of mine...

Well, I'm basing it more off concerns for the bottled water supply. Even 'safe' levels of radiation is unacceptable for me. Radioactive Iodine doesn't need to be going into my baby's Thyroid gland.

Note that I know a certain amount of radiation exposure is just a part of being alive, but radiation INGESTION is not, and especially elements that don't normally occur, such as the aforementioned radioactive iodine.

...don't get me started on the iodine issue. As someone who had a parent out of the tri-cities/Hanford area who had metabolic issues that are pretty dead on for 'gee, radioactive iodine, much?' I think you should be concerned, at least to some extent.

(And as it is the job of government to spend a lot of time lying to the populace no, I'm not paranoid at all trusting what they -- or corps -- are saying blindly is just stupid.)

*hugs* (O, hai, I even caught you posting for once.)

Unfortunately, I've got no good advice for you. And, sadly, giant sarcophagi aren't actually much by way of solution.

One question (at least in regards to water) -- what are the odds of managing something in order to distill your own? That way you wouldn't have to compete for distilled water at all. In theory (hahahaha) it shouldn't be that hard to boil water and then capture the steam into another recepticle.

I will, however, send ya the good vibes, for lack of any other method of serious help. (Also, I need to figure out what I did with your address so I can send mini-Cthulhu, not that soul-eating monsters are much of a consolation in the current situation.)

Unfortunately, finding a way of filtering out iodine is a tricky proposition. I don't know enough science to invent my own, and all the filters you can buy in a typical store don't try to remove it because normally trace amounts of it are actually good to consume.

It's a moot point for the moment. I've got about a week's supply saved up, and Shion and I will be leaving the country in under a week. I just think our next child will be delayed, possibly indefinitely.
