New moon & first yeast bread

Jul 30, 2008 21:19

Today being the New Moon, I did two things today to set the tone for how I want things to unfold as I move forward, and into my imminent production phase for my novel.

First, I did some just-for-fun creative writing and thinking for a game thing I'm working on.

Second, I spent time in the kitchen letting my subconscious process story issues I'm ( Read more... )

That bread looks really tasty, I'm totally stealing your recipe. I fail at baking bread, for some crazy reason. Take the dough out of the mould and I'm a wizard, but put it in loaf form? It's like a different language, I have no clue. I'll try this and see if my luck improves.

I'm going to take that dough recipe and try to make a pizza out of it. I've been looking for a good wheat dough that's not too sweet, since it's WAY healthier for you, and that looks like it'd work nicely. The idea of the mediterranean savory ingredients is genius, too.

Thanks.
If I were going to pizza-fy this, I'd double the yeast. It needs a bit more space in the dough matrix than this recipe produces, I think.
Happy experimentation. :)

ah, that's what I liked! I was going to try it as a flatbread crust and see how it went.

Thanks :) I'll try it both ways, now if it gets strange on the stone I'll know why.

given our recent message exchange, I saw this and thought of you. 'gluten free', plus it's a dessert item, I figure, worthy for you to get your hand in with with some practice in that genre. ::grin::

this kind of thing's very popular in Australia and has a lot of fans in the UK. I personally haven't heard of this or seen it in the US, though I'm sure it's available in some gourmet corners of the land.

That looks so yummy. I can cook just about anything, but I've never gotten the knack of baking.

Baked goods are my first love. There's a "just right" look and feel to a batter, for instance, just as there is to the state of a stir-fry or a sautee. Like with anything, it takes some practice to get the "feel" for it. My mom got me started right by letting me "help" her bake pies at the age of maybe 2 1/2 - learned the feel of pie dough early on, and I've kept it up ever since. :)

Man- there is no better way to celebrate, and inaugurate a new place (be it mental or physical) than by baking bread!
Those loaves look delicious!

Sitting here grumbling, when I came across your post on breads. I, too, shall celebrate and make some blueberry crumb cake. Perhaps a loaf of bread as well, it could be arising whilst I put the cake into the oven. Summer is just the best time to make bread. My kitchen is too cold in the winter to get the dough to rise. Thanks girl!
