The National Weather Service office in Mobile is running a SKYWARN storm spotter's class here in Shalimar. Anyone interested is invited to attend; 6:30-9:30, at the Okaloosa County Courthouse Annex in Shalimar. It's in the EOC (north entrance, by the sheriff's office). :)

Fun from the new Nor'easter and the NWS pugtor April 13 2007, 03:56:22 UTC
Check out http://www.weather.gov/data/OKX/AFDOKX.20070412191300 , the area forecast for Upton, NY. Look down 12 paragraphs to the one beginning, "12Z GFS RUN IS VERY IMPRESSIVE...". It has a great quote in it:

12Z GFS RUN IS VERY IMPRESSIVE WITH SURFACE WINDS OF 50 TO 60
KNOTS! LOW LEVEL EASTERLY FLOW OVER THE ISLAND IS NEAR 80 KNOTS.
WHILE IT/S VERY EARLY AND THINGS WILL CHANGE...WE NEED TO BE
VIGILANT ABOUT THIS SYSTEM AND START PLANNING. WE DO NOT WANT TO
SAY THAT THE SKY IS FALLING...BUT THERE POTENTIAL HERE FOR A HIGH
IMPACT EVENT DUE TO THE SPRING TIDES...HEAVY RAIN AND HIGH WINDS.

It's fun when the NWS people get inspired.
