The annual fundraising drive managed to achieve its goal this year. To everyone who donated, your contribution is greatly appreciated, and you have my personal thanks on the matter. While I am sure that Jimmy exaggerated the possibility of my imminent demise to a degree, it would be quite nice to buy some new pairs of socks for myself, Commons and ( Read more... )

Whoa! So it's almost your birthday? Congrats!

I would not call it 'birthday' as such, but yes. Thank you. It is certainly nice to be a decade old.

Then what would you call it?

We call it Wikipedia Day at the foundation.....although that sounds a little odd if I say it myself, come to think of it. The day my servers formally went up, I suppose?

How come I haven't heard of this event yet?! Hey where is it? Maybe I'll be able to get a discount for the others!

...Assuming you're not paying since it'll be your birthday.

The full list of events can be found here, Yelp, although I should say that most of it are quite informal parties organized by my contributors. As for the official ones, they will be held in San Francisco, Bay Area. There's a fee for the food at the main conference, but Jimmy said the official party might be free.

That's a huge celebration! Well if it'll be good I guess it should be worth it to pay the full price for food.

It's a ten-year celebration. When I was first initialized, people predicted that I would not make it past my fifth year. All of us are quite glad to prove them wrong, I think.

I am not sure how 'good' the conference would be, of course. It might be boring if you are not a contributor. But even if the party is not free, I might ask Jimmy to hold the door open if they come with your recommendation.

Unofficially, you understand.

It's not really my birthday, in that sense, but I suppose it is close enough. Thank you, GIMP.

Easier to say than anything else. [Presents a card, sporting a nice puzzle piece theme with good birthday wishes.]

Ah. This was drawn using your featureset, correct? You needn't give me anything, considering how part of this whole business was Jimmy blowing celebrations out of proportion....but thank you, nonetheless. I'll take it as a sign that I will manage to exist as long as you have.

Don't worry, I think my users have the creepy staring down.

While that may raise some questions regarding your users, I believe our correspondence team would be happy to hear that. They are barely less troublesome than the WikiLeaks-related emails, as different as the two issues are.

Speaking of WikiLeaks, I have a rhetorical question. If I deleted GBS, would anyone miss it?

.....by GBS, do you refer to gastric bypass surgery, Game Boy Sound System, or the GNU build system?

[you should know better than to throw acronyms at wiki, seriously]
