When I was in Montenegro last year, I picked up one of those wooden house signs with a little saying on - you know, the kind that looks very twee in English but suddenly seems vaguely appealing in a foreign language. In cursive Cyrillic, it reads:

Боже благослови онога који улази у овај дом, заштити и сачувај онога који излази из њега и дај мир

I say scratch out "Владика Николај", find the Montenegrin for "attributed to", and write in the name of some South Slav you rather like (such as Гаврило Принцип, you godless Jew-loving Commie bastard, you).

Meh, plenty of smart lovely humane writing has come from complete and total bastards. And maybe the complicated moral shadiness of the quote's context keeps it from being, as you say, twee.
