Ooh lucky you, getting to visit Chatham. My home town is a very special place isn't it? Did you have the good fortune to see some alchies fighting outside woolworths?

No, although some little chav asked one of my colleagues what the time was...and after she told him he shouted, "cheers, an' a blowjob, yeah?"

Thing is, I secretly find Chatham kind of inspiring. I really want to write about it (have you read any of Billy Childish's stuff?). Plus, as a local journalist, I literally make about half my films in Chatham...it's basically an endless supply of antisocial behaviour stories!

I know Billy Childish's stuff well, I have a lot of his records too. You can't escape the man. Also Charles Dickens. If you attend any kind of remotely academic school in Kent, they make you do vast amounts of Dickens and Chaucer in some attempt to be locally patriotic.

People who visit Medway with me always say they feel like they are going back in time, what with the rampant 80s style deprivation and cathedral and junk shops. I like visiting, but there's no way I'm moving back there. I did it recently for 3 months, and no, definitely not.
