I caught the end of some doco about Chinese hip-hop on Radio 4 yesterday, which was great (it's here, if you want to check it out). I was amazed to hear one of them say that not only is rapping harder in Mandarin, but singing is much harder in general because of having to rhyme tones as well as sounds. I am making this film about legal highs, and last night I filmed myself smoking a whole load of salvia divinorum.  It was kind of disappointing.  All I really felt was a vague sense of being disconnected from my body and a general light-headedness, whereas I was kind of hoping for a full-on Aldous Huxley-style perceptual flip.  Oh well - I guess ( Read more... )
