it was the CRITICAL SAVAGING. They savagely tore off his new shirt-n-tie while trying to peel the flesh off his bones and he JUST BARELY ESCAPED with his standard ones :O It was EXACTLY as horrible as he makes it out to be.

The "European sensibility" is probably what pisses me off the most. "American critics hate my movies because they are American and thus uncultured. Producing films the way I do is ~art in the face of adversity~" What, American critics don't study foreign filmmakers in the course of their education? There's no way that they possibly like and understand Hitchcock or any of those other filmmakers you claim to love so much more than you do? Nationality doesn't determine personal taste, douchebag. Once more, he is just making excuses to an interviewer that is lapping it up. Ugh.

Also, didn't TLA bomb in Japan? Who the hell does he think was calling him a "genius" anyway? Or has his delusion lapsed into outright blatant falsehoods now?

TLA's made $6mil in japan. he might be referring to "signs," which grossed highest in japan among foreign markets, but then "signs" didn't exactly flop in the states either. people still liked shyamalan for the most part when that movie came out. i sincerely doubt ANYONE is calling him "GENIUS!" unless he's signing their paychecks.

In Japan, TLA debuted in 5th place at the same time that Studio Ghibli's adaption of 'The Borrowers' debuted in the same opening week (grabbing #1 in Japan's box office instantly) on July 17th. Now, TLA is completely not on Japan's Box Office charts anymore.

I want to chalk is up to Japan just being 'nice' as usual, and not wanting to criticize and question anything that comes out of the US. Though, the box office does tell a different story.

seriously. when are we going to get an interviewer that finally puts him in his place? or would he pull another "if i thought like you i'd kill myself" to the interviewer and walk off while insulting the interviewer's intelligence because god forbid that little shit gets his ego bruised.

he doesn't do critical interviews. i'm serious. i don't remember if the article was linked here or not but this one guy had interviewed shyalaman for one of his previous movies and the reporter actually asked some hard-hitting questions, and afterwards shyamalan was like "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? THAT WAS THE WORST INTERVIEW EVER, THE SCENERY WAS TERRIBLE AND YOU WERE TERRIBLE AND I WILL BE SPEAKING TO YOUR BOSS AND MAKING SURE I APPROVE THE FINAL CUT" and of course the final cut was all glorifying shamwow, so when the reporter decided he was done with this shitty job he wrote up an article laying bare all of shamwow's egotism.
