random rant from a guy via facebook message

Feb 28, 2010 13:21

So a guy writes this to me via facebook message and I don't for the life of me know why he did, but I'm pretty grossed out. I'm wondering what everyone here thinks.

Here's his message:
hah, if you could see my situation right now you would call me a complete patriarchal pig, and yet I'm confused and miserable and trying to at least keep 100% ( Read more... )

bitterness, male privilege, entitlement

^ This.

Especially if you did nothing to provoke this sort of message.
Seems completely out of the blue to me.. and I'd guard against getting any more like it.

Is this someone you actually know who sent this to you out of the blue, or is it just some random stranger?

I know the guy, he saw a post I'd put up on hookup culture and how the sexism, rather than the sex, is what screws women over. And...that...set him off on a rant?

I'm sorry but you post something ONLINE which is in some string or not public and are irritated if someone answers?

Sorry but if you don't want any response to something you have written you should stop publishing things and write an analog diary.

I don't want to sound mean but I'm always wondering why people don't realise that stuff they are doing on the internet is public.

Usually posting something on facebook etc. is to get a response from other people.

The thing I posted online was on hookup culture and how sexism affects girls. And his response wasn't as a comment to that post, it was in the form of a pm to me. And not to mention, not germane to what I'd originally posted.

Jesus fucking Christ. WAAAAH YOU BITCHES HAVE IT ALL, YOU DON'T GET TO PAY FOR DATES AND YOU CAN SAY NO TO SEX.

Does he have any idea about the world beyond his own window? Sex trafficking and forced prostitution and other awful, terrible things that happen to women that no one gives two shits about? Yeah, let's see some ~overcompensation~ in those areas.

His comments:

"For example, it's perfectly acceptable for a woman to ask a man out, but the man is still expected to and then suffer rejections gracefully while a man turning down a woman is an ass."

Unless the man in question considers himself a 'Nice Guy', in which case the woman who turns him down is accused of being emotionally dysfunctional and only liking jerks.

"But if a guy is clear about not wanting to get emotionally involved but still wanting sex than he's a sexist pig."

Odd. I'd definitely say that slut-shaming definitely applies more to women than to men. I'd also say that the 'I just want sex' attitude from men isn't that unaccepted anyway but I think its definitely more accepted than a woman doing the same.

"while prevailing culture USED to be "she must have wanted it because x reason" (and I know that excuse is still used to occasional unfortunate effect) the new situation is that women can now have consensual sex and change their mind later and more effectively press charges than they ever could before. The ( ... )

This. Guys are supposed to want no strings attached sex, the girls who give it to them are whores. What the hell is this guy smoking?
