yeah I was thinking "I hope this doesn't make all cripples go and aggravate brown recluse spiders..."

Huh.

Even if his nerves were "alive", you'll have to explain to me how muscles that weren't used for 20 years allowed him to walk after five days.

it would not be much walking and it was proably assisted. It said he was in rehab for eight months. So they might have been the time it took for him to walk on his own.

I don't know, I read it like he was in therapy for 8 month for the spider bite before realizing he could walk.

I don't know much about recluse bites, but I don't imagine you'd be in physical therapy for 8 months over one.

They probably left out the fact that he's suddenly ripped and has perfect eyesight because they didn't know it was related.

Upcoming research - extract venom of spiders and their neurological effects/benefits to paraplegic patients.

I was going to say that's some intense psyche he's got there, but I actually know a nurse who works for a guy who now walks, having been in a wheelchair for two years because his mother insisted on it and he spent so long in the chair he lost muscle tone entirely. his nursing assistant convinced him to move away from momma, was a real meanie-head to him and wouldn't give him his chair, and he is now walking around without crutches.

Doubt it, but there ARE cases now and then of para/quadriplegic people getting some nerve function back after a while. My bet is on that it was that and he had the luck that it got discovered because he was in the hospital anyway.
Although spider bite = cure would be cool.
