Don't know if anyone posted about this either. Quite possibly.

 Wiki'd:

"On 26 April 1986 at 01:23:44 a.m. (UTC+3) reactor number four at the Chernobyl plant, near Pripyat in the Ukrainian SSR, exploded. Further explosions and the resulting fire sent a plume of highly radioactive fallout into the atmosphere and over an extensive geographical area. ( Read more... )

An accident borne of stupidity and carelessness!

There's a big push going on here in the U.S. to use the high cost of oil as an excuse to build more nuclear power plants here in the U.S.

It looks like it's working.

I fail to see the problem. Chernobyl was the result of a massive lack of safety precautions, ignoring of warning signs, and general unsuitablility of the site. Nuclear energy in the U.S. is under a vastly greater set of restrictions and safety precautions. Even if a meltdown were to occur, which is in a vast realm of unlikely, any potential effects would be minimal, and quickly contained.

IAWTC. Russia did not tell the world this happened for 4 days. A lot of bad things could've been prevented.

Yep, we were USSR then and the Government did its best to suppress this. This shit was said to have reached even Western Europe cause some newborn babies with thyroid cancer were reported in Spanish newspaper.
