The Thorny Devil is a quirky little creature that can be found in Australia. Not only are their looks kind of wtf, their movements are a little whacky as well, but what really got me is their ability to suck moisture up from their belly instead of drinking it through their mouth.

that spiked lump on their neck is a false head, too - when threatened they tuck the real head down

Awww Molloch. I'd find them sometimes at a reserve where I worked last year.

Those spines are actually surprisingly soft, and used more to channel dew to their mouths than be threatening. But the coolest feature is the tiny channels on their skin. If you put them in a shallow bowl of water (in the wild it would be a small puddle), capillary action sucks the water up onto their bodies and towards their mouths. They're a reptilian sponge.
