actually American ticks can cause paralysis, I learnt today, but it's still Ixodes that's notorious for it.

Hey, in America, lyme disease can lurk around for years after you've been bitten and then suddenly jump up and hit you with CHRONIC SYMPTOMS OF (WE)EEEEVIL AND SUCK and puzzle your doctors immensely. That's kinda fun.
