“Milton and Dante. Decent blokes, a bit morose, but the company’s right enough for tonight, paradise being so thoroughly lost an’ all..."

It is, for both of them - they don't have anything left but each other, and they are miles away from paradise. One hell of a day, and you've drawn their exhaustion and fragility in ashes and smoke. Absolutely lyric writing, your finest.

she sobbed.

For James. For her father in his little boat, and for Will’s stolen youth.

For the Jack she’d lost to the shackles.Another example of your craft - simple words that are so compelling, so evocative - the true resolution of AWE, overshadowed by the film's grandiosity, in just twenty-two heartwrenching words ( ... )

Not only did I actually laugh out loud ("yer royal rankness"?) but I found myself fighting the urge to scan the words in a mad rush to know what happened so that I might savor the turns of phrase more slowly and fully.
You build the tension between them so artfully, and allow Elizabeth to show weakness (before Jack, so she must trust him, despite her protests) and show Jack's torment... this is amazingly done and I am VERY sorry it has taken me so very long to give it its due.

I appreciate the reality of Elizabeth's thoughts, emotions and actions portrayed here. It has bowled me over many times to think of all that has happened since the beginning of Jack, Will and Elizabeth's story. To think of what it all finally came to. This has captured so perfectly what I thought Elizabeth must be going through once she'd had the time to stop and think about it all. This has got to be the best immediately-post-AWE fic I have read so far. I couldn't see her just picking up right away and going on as if nothing of importance had happened,(who could, after all that?) nor could I imagine her becoming a crazy-fierce unfeeling bitch. Or giving up and falling to pieces. (Broken record time) This is just perfect, the best portrayal of how her emotions would most likely be after all that. And of course I loved every bit of the JE interaction. They weren't overly rotten to each other, everything was completely believable and so THEM!!!
