Vellum by Hal Duncan First sentence of the first chapter of the first volume : "The journals of Reynald Carter"
T - Tray/ 120 words/+1
I'm dying to write original this week. Let see where it's taking me. _____
"That's what's fantastic with those pills" he said while carrying the tray full of colored pills."You take one and all your worries are washed up. You forget why you are ill or sad. It allows you to forget. What one? It's free today."
I was watching him and his pills with the eye of someone hardly believing what I was hearing. How could people take a pill and just forget? But I had heard stories about how effective they were and how everyone was calling them miraculous.
How could people do that? Feeling the sadness and the pain was part of what was making us human. No really.

_______
Misha runs into me when I open my flat door. Inside there is a clear smell of an messy place where no-one even want to know about what is under the couch. It's been unkempt for too long. I sit on it, still dressed with my jacket, scarf and gloves.
The cat jumps on me and I let my hand run in its fur while my thoughts are going back to what he said to me. My eyes are caught by the headline of the main magazine.
"Suicide attempts sank by 70% in less than a month"
All that thanks to a little pill which makes you forget.

Prompt: Ordinary +3 148 words
After days in agony-acute pain that burned white-hot and nitrogen-cold in thousands of cruel shards--my mind was drifting, trying to float softly on the molten stream and lift myself up from the burn. When the pain drops off, plummeting out from beneath me, it leaves me gasping and bewildered.
My back and neck, taut and arched in an exquisite expression of pain, relax. I blink rapidly as my fingers unfurl from the bedpost, raining slivers of metal onto crumpled sheets.
My eyes focus on a painting on the wall, and I gasp. My throat is sore and thirst itches and burns down to my stomach where hunger roils. Although the room is dimly lit, I can see each minute brushstroke, and each subtle shift in hue stands out from the next in fine detail. An ordinary landscape is rendered in intricate perfection to my new eyes.
