SO this was a perfect time to use a WIP in my folder and out of the five options that appeared, this was the best one to work with. 8D;; This was my 'techno-pop pirates don't need your snassy' doc, if anyone remembers that. Same verse as
this, I think!

“You botched Balcan!” Hashimoto bellowed. “He was going to win and now it’s all ruined!”
All eyes turned to him and Totsuka was reminded of how intensely physical humans were, as a whole, himself included. It was all in their heads and in the data-stream. Their surroundings, their own avatars, it was all just code and yet they all still turned to look, to concentrate as Hashimoto tried to knee Kawai in the crotch.
It was always Hashimoto and Kawai causing the diversion. Hashimoto because he was pretty and tall, and Kawai because he knew how to get a crowd worked up, keeping everyone occupied while Totsuka, Tsukada, and Goseki slipped in and out of the scene, unnoticed.
The scenario was for races and though Totsuka could never understand the point of racing coded horses when you could watch Virals fight in the lower levels, he knew it was a hot spot for their misconduct with all the gambling that went on.
But there was no time to dwell on that. Goseki had already slipped off to steal access codes while the security was so lax. Tsukada had squirreled his way to where the horses were penned, subtly editing their source code. Might as well fix things in their favor and win a bet or two while they did their dirty deeds.
Totsuka flicked through the accounts Goseki fed him, trying to figure out which ones to hit. One couldn’t just rob people willy-nilly, that was how you got caught. But it was easy to line their pockets by siphoning small fortunes off the right people. And that’s why they were here with the races instead of the Virals’ rings, because this is where the rich and pretentious came. He easily stole the credits they’d need for their upcoming transaction with K-IH85.
And with not a moment to spare, he noted at he finished up, as security programs tried to converge on Kawai and Hashimoto. Both of them continued to scream at each other before running, swiftly exiting the scenario. Balcan wasn’t going to win the race anyway, but that was fine. Nobody would care or remember that in the end.
Goseki appeared by Totsuka’s side, grinning in satisfaction and they left together, unnoticed by all. Tsukada would stay, tucked in the crowd to collect their winnings when the race was over.
Totsuka enjoyed the taste of a successful heist.
