Fourteen years old in four minutes and Thomas is sweating, his fist pumping over his uncovered lap as hard as he can. He is thinking of the only girl he has talked to all school year, and what she told him today.

'I'm sorry Tommy, but I really like your brother. We can be friends though, yeah?'

He finishes, the toilet flushing while he wipes his forehead and gets ready to return to his birthday party outside. The sun blinds him when he steps out but he covers his eyes and runs towards his friends, joining the game quickly.

Tom is an old man now, and he thinks often of that birthday party. He cant remember the girl's name anymore, although he remembers he branded it on his heart in those dawning moments of youth. Instead, he remembers the feeling of his palm, the salt on the back of his hand and the colorful birthday card his mother gave him.

"I've apologized a million times, what else do you want from me?" Jason tilted the chair back onto two legs and eyed his younger brother. Though Scott was over six-feet tall, he was built with toothpicks and twine. Viola sat facing the massive picture window, watching the rain run down the panes. She sighed and tried to turn her attention back to her anatomy textbook, but her eyes refused to focus. She pushed her long, dark hair out of her face and re-adjusted the wire-framed glasses that perched on her nose. She was tired, stressed, and desperately needed a break ( ... )

She met her mother in the hallway. It was like meeting a taller, more weathered, more polished version of herself. The most obvious difference was their hairstyles for the identical sable-colored hair: where Viola’s was long and sweeping, Wilhelmina’s was short, coiffed, controlled. Classic Chanel replaced Viola’s casual basics on the same slim, but longer frame. Looking closer one would see the same full mouth, the same apple cheeks and the same square chin. Ah, but the keen observer would be surprised at how eyes could change a person’s appearance. Wilhelmina’s were a gray like lead polished to a gun-metal gleam. Viola’s- wider, a soft gray-blue like low-hanging clouds threatening to storm. Where Wilhelmina’s honed in, Viola’s enveloped ( ... )

hey, as for Wilhelmina’s were a gray like lead polished to a gun-metal gleam, make that Wilhelmina’s were a gray like lead flat carbon steel polished to a gun-metal gleam, yaddayaddayadda...

I'm not going to sit down and count every word. If it looks about right, you're fine.

Time extension, please roma_ann July 13 2006, 23:16:31 UTC
auraesque, can we be granted an extension? Submitted brainstorming ideas to teammates 8 or 9 am EST this morning, but it wasn't received; meanwhile, since coming home (no computer access for me from 2:00 - 6:30) I've dealing with brown-out conditions here (I swear my area makes my house one step above Frontier House)- so, now we're left with 45 min. to complete, which gives enough time for completing my segment, but would leave the last teammate dusted with no opp to complete by 8:00 pm EST & what's the point of that?

What say you?

Yeah, that was awfully short time limit for those of us that work, especially for anything collaborative. If'n the challenges could extend to include at least one weekend day, that would be nice... And we've been have power/cable problems here in the PM due to storms, too...
