One of the things I notice the most about the opening credits of Sherlock is, naturally, The London Eye. For some reason, it seemed vaguely appropriate even though it was not in place at the time of the original Sherlock stories

There are a lot of very amusing parallels between the two Sherlock Holmes time periods. Watson being an Afganistan veteran is one of my favorites as they get to keep referencing his unit and rank as a little detail throughout the show as he did in the stories.
The fervor for eastern martial arts spurred by John Woo movies that seeps into action scenes has it's own mirror in the Judo/savate/bujinkan craze of the Victorian period's gentleman books and photographic plates.
