my school library had a great series of books - i don't remember what it was called but there were three of them and they documented banned and challenged books and told you where they had been challenged and why. so that is why i know that Blubber, by Judy Blume, was banned/challenged (i don't remember which) in Montgomery County, Maryland public ( Read more... )

wow... I've read lots of these... Julie of the Wolves was one of my absolute favourite books as a child. In fact, I bought both sequels when they came out even though I was way too old for them.
Deenie was also quite good, if it is what I'm thinking of... about multiple births and the older child having to deal with it.... though there were dead people buried in the back yard, I think.
Heather has Two Mommies is on my bookshelf because someone gave it to me as an adult. I have lots of kid books, anyway, and its part of the collection now.

oh mannnn i too learned many things from the alice books, but i also loved naylor's witch series. i preferred fear street to goosebumps, and i read some christopher pike and it generally wigged me out quite a bit-- the pervasive cocaine use, for example. i highly highly recommend the anastasia krupnik series, btw.

of the ones you ask about: interstellar pig was awesome! i also liked house of stairs. and the witch of blackbird pond was one of my favorites, as was anna to the infinite power. that was the book that taught me what "doppleganger" meant!
