TB as consumption always sounded somewhat interesting but I actually wonder if some of those cases of ladies wasting away in a genteel fashion weren't actually suffering from a form of cancer.

Consumption Symptoms: generalized tiredness or weakness, weight loss, fever, and night sweats. If the infection in the lung worsens, then further symptoms can include coughing, chest pain, coughing up of sputum (material from the lungs) and/or blood, and shortness of breath.

Lung Cancer Symptoms: cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, chest pain, and coughing up blood (hemoptysis), weight loss, weakness, and fatigue.

You may of course be increasingly likely to get TB these days as it is making a comeback and is increasingly resistant to antibiotics.

I hadn't seen that article - although I knew the bit about TB 'running in families' and not being thought contagious.
