My memories of Kung Fu and David Carradine

Aug 27, 2009 22:51

Wrote this back a couple months ago but kept not getting around to posting it….

Back before Stargate SG-1 or Stargate Atlantis, I was a big fan of the series Kung Fu: The Legend Continues (aka KFTLC), the sequel to old ABC series Kung Fu, which oddly enough, I never watched. Best of all, I found out a friend was working on the series, so I was able ( Read more... )

I really used to love watching KFTLC. After I became hooked, I found the original and fell in love with that, as well. I think it's amazing that you had so many wonderful experiences on set. What great memories, and thank you for sharing them with us. I still have several tapes with both series of Kung Fu, and DVDs of the entire series of KFTLC.

You are so right about the stories being more interesting without cell phones. That and DNA was just starting to come into the picture, so no sudden answers and no computer doing all the work. Oh, Kermit, how we loved your hacking and green glasses.

I gotta get the OLD pc working so I can get my 'con reports' off. I know more went on, but my memory is getting creaky ;) DVDs of KFLTC?! Heh, oh yeah, DNA was brand new if even used, and oh yeah :) Kermit and his green glasses. He made geeks sexy :)

Marvelous recollections, Elyse. I'm glad you had the opportunity to experience the set so many times, and that it was as "open" to you as it sounds like it was.

Thanks for sharing! You brought back some good memories for me, too...

Hey, you're welcome. I had a ball rewatching KFTLC, even if some plots were preposterously hokey, I still had fun. Whoa, an ADDERLY icon?! Heh, oh, those were the days too!

Yeah, I did both Fu Fests, the hockey game. gads we may have even talked to each other back then! Oh yeah, Kim Chan was fun to talk with, in fact, I think I talked to virtually all the cast - except David Carradine, unless the bug stare time counts as communication:). I remember the hockey game was sparsely attended as it was during the anthrax scare, wasn't it? I was like, I don't care, I'm going!

I could have cared less about an anthrax scare. All I know was I bought the tickets for the game and the party after and I was going.

Did you enjoy the party. Great music and to finally get to see Chris sing on stage, I liked Mustang Sally! I also liked that he came to the con room (or who's room got used to have him visit, getting told we were making too much noise). We had group pictures, were you in any of them?

As for David, when I got his book signed I got the glassy stare, he looked up at me at the time before he signed. He seemed to be looking right through me though. LOL Boy was he 3 sheets to the wind and it was morning!

I had a lot of fun though. I met a really nice actor, that I didn't know his name but I had seen him on TV. He was looking for directions to his room. He was so polite, a far cry from Alan Thick the jerk!

Ohmygod, yes, I remember Mustang Sally! :) I don't think I was at that party with the group pictures though; must have missed it (darn). Yeah, someone else told me when David signed his book at one con, he was definitely out of it, to be polite. I didn't even run into Alan Thicke, but the younger lesser-known actors were all nice guys.

This is interesting, thank you!

I think I've watched all episode KFTLC that shown in my country, and I always wondered why I don't see Chris Potter in other TV series, I thought he's good looking & can act too. At the time there's no wikipedia/imdb for me..
It sure is a fun series to watch... Carradine did that smack at the head thing, that Gibbs does now to Dinozzo in NCIS, I always reminded that to KFTLC.

Maybe you could try http://www.cpfan.com/ ? It lists all of CPs shows, movies and guest appearances. He's done a lot of other things besides KFTLC.

Thank you. Maybe I was just didn't pay attention that much on TV then.
I was back home when I was watching KFTLC, and there was not a lot of series to pick & watch. Just one or two TV channels worth watching, so I kinda forget about liking Chris Potter after awhile and started liking other series & other actors.

Heh, yeah, the head smack started here, so when Gibbs does it.. makes you think back. Chris Potter is doing a Canadian series called Heartland and I think the first season is coming out on DVD this fall. I saw Victoria Snow in a Warehouse 13, but several of the cast seem to have quit acting. Darn. I remember one - actor who played Strenlich? -said at one con he was going off prospecting or something to do with oil in Alberta or thereabouts.

David Carradine by wraithfodder watcher652 August 28 2009, 07:33:37 UTC
Hey, I was at that celebrity hockey game too! What are the odds of us finding each other on LJ? I was disappointed that RDA didn't skate because of his then recent knee surgery. I only remember Chris Potter and Jason Hervey from the Wonder Years at the game. I had awful seats and everyone was teeny tiny to me ( ... )

Yeah, I would have loved to have seen RDA skate as he was still MacGyver to me. Oh yes, I was in the nose bleed seats too, with binoculars. I remmeber when Fu stuff went to some cons for auction. I donated a script signed by most of the cast; it went for around $300-400. Still have one of those but am keeping it for myself as a keepsake. Yeah, Carradine could be spacey. There are lots of stories about him and I think there's a modicom of truth to many. However, I do know that when the camera started rolling, man, snap, he was instantly into the Caine personna.
