First, work is going well.  I'm completely over my first day funk and very happy to have made the move.  People have been friendly.  I'm already getting involved in projects and definitely feel that I have things to offer on some issues that we're working on.  All in all, feeling very good about the decision ( Read more... )

Since it's so close, maybe you can hit the Y elliptical for 30 mins after Morgan goes to bed? It's hard to get out of the house sometimes, but then you get home, take a nice hot shower and sleep really great.

I love these pre-packaged trail mixes and nuts from Trader Joes. Just the right serving - might be a good mid-afternoon snack idea.

B12 supplementation. Also, iron (in the form of raw spinach) is also very good for you if you're dragging. My question is though, are you dragging right after meals (when you're doing the digesting) or is it more "time of day" based. How much sleep are you getting? These are all things to consider when messing around with your diet.

As for simple, easy to prepare lunches, I tend to do a lot of crock pot cooking, aka, I make something of at least 4-5 servings, use one that week and freeze the rest, and I make a new crock pot of something different each week, so that I have 4 days worth of things I can reheat at work each week, and Thursday is my "splurge" day since we have a Taco Bar in the cafeteria that day.

I have a gazillion recipes, just let me know what types of things you like (I know many of *my* favorites are out because they include beans).

Miss you. News at work is that I've taken the Friday off after Soup Night the rest of the year so that I can attend. I miss my friends.

Minor snacks can help captainwhimsy February 5 2009, 21:20:25 UTC
I'm terrible at not eating lunch at the right time, and so when I get hungry I eat crappy fast food. So I require myself to keep some healthy ish snack foods on hand so I can make better choices when I do go eat:

Oatmeal
Microwaveable soup
100 calorie pack snacks.
Granola bars.

I was often a fan of simple sandwich type things
- egg salad (egg, mayo, and spanish olives)
- chicken/humus salad (chicken, roasted red pepper humus rather than mayo)

Humas makes a remarkably good sandwhich.

Humas, sprouts, and whatever else suits your fancy. Yum.

A great little mid-afternoon pick-me-up is a vitamin supplement...i think the brand-name is something like "crystal meth-amphetamine". Just give it a try. :)
(i kid! i kid!)

Dietary intake tracking is a sound idea. I'd also put under a microscope the kind of things your drinking/eating that have stimulant or depressive properties.

Food ruts aren't bad, if it's food you like and isn't bad for you.
