Vent issue

Just wanted to pick some brains about this... I have a vent server I've been using with friends. No one has ever had a problem connecting except this one guy. At first, he said he couldn't connect to .net vent servers. So I changed the domain to a .com one. He still couldn't get on. I changed the password. Nothing. I even called the vent ( Read more... )

Has he tried making a new profile? That's so strange, especially if he's not having issues getting on other people's vent.

Not sure, but I'll ask him to try it. It's kind of ruining this for everyone since the guild wants to use this vent as their main vent since I already have it (leftover from my old old guild and I just kept it around for use with friends). But if one of the core raiders can't get on it, then that screws everything up. :/ And I just paid a fee to upgrade the number of users we can have online, too. Blargh.

I'd second the making a new profile attempt. For some reason, sometimes, one of mine will just stop letting me log onto a vent server, for no reason I can ever discern. A new profile almost always fixes it.

If making a new profile doesn't fix it, I would suggest he check to see whether the port Vent is using is blocked on his machine, because that's what it sounds like to me.

Well, I did already change the port on the server once, but I suppose it's possible that both of those ports just happen to be blocked.

Can he ping the vent server? trying doing that from a command line. Possibly he can try turning of his firewall for a moment to test, does he connect through a router?

I had this problem with a pug vent I used on the regular. I set it up so Ventrilo was run as an Admin and I haven't had a problem since.

This fixes 99% of the people who have problems with my Vent server.

Also, that was incredibly awkward wording.

First: /snerk at the wording. Made my day. :p

Secondly: yeah, usually running as Admin on Vent fixes most problems. I've found doing so fixes Vent not recognizing the mic, your speakers, your headset (USB or otherwise), volume issues, and also DCing problems.
