I has a priestie dumb

Okay, so. I have a tiny priestie who just hit 85 and has had only one spec since vanilla: Shadow. (Yes, I got kicked out of groups a lot just for not being a healer. Yes, it made for very lonely leveling.) Thanks to my love affairs with pallies, shammies and druids, I've acquired the habit of being an oshit healer when the occasion necessitated it ( Read more... )

priest: gear, priest: holy, priest: general, priest: discipline

I once convinced a friend to roll a holy priest (while going through all the differences between all healing classes) because they're "cute". I mean, really, the auras are just so pretty!

I agree with roguebait, you need good gear for rolling a disc. Ever since Cataclysm, I've always made it a point to go shadow first to gear up before healing. Although my transition to Dragon Soul didn't cause much of a problem (only had 2pc t12 that time, too!, because I was shadow before 4.3 patch ( ... )

I am holy and I love it now that someone gave me some advice on rotation. I still use my shadow spec for questing and occasional dpsing if needed (though everything I wear is set up for holy, so I don't pull that great dps), and it works ok for me.

For you I would say HOLY! But, I'm bias. :) I dunno, I love the whole "OH SHIT YOU'RE GONNA DIE GOTTA SAAAAAVE YOUR ASS!!!" moments that Holy gives me. I'm really just going to echo everyone else:
way easier to switch between holy/shadow in terms of gear.
You'll get to raid heal, if that's up your ally. I do a lot of tank healing, but that's cause I've been healing our main tank forever and we have this psychic bond going on.
It's pretty looking.
I find it to be very easy in terms of mana management.
Depending on your server, you'll be an exotic animal. "wow, a holy priest!! I haven't seen one of those since Kara!"

I was Disc all the way to 85, and then I found I was running out of mana at an alarming rate. I switched to Holy and quite like it. Divine Hymn has saved my bacon on many occasions, standing there while everyone is heading into the red zone and hitting DH and watching climb up into the green is a wondrous feeling. And the chakras arent too bad once you figure them out, thought it will take some practise runs to get the methods. Hopefully you have some helpful guildies who can take you through a few dungeons to try it out.

I am a discipline priest through and through (well, the part of me that isn't a prot warrior, that is!) and I wouldn't give it up for anything. It takes some skill to manage mana (timing Rapture procs, using Inner Focus on CD, and the standard Hymn of Hope/Shadowfiend) at low gear levels, but it's completely doable. My priest has been discipline since the day I rolled her 3 years ago - I even quested up to 85 in that spec. :p ( ... )
