There is still alot of controversy on the haste vs mastery train. I have yet to find the PERFECT balance but I do find that letting my haste drop below 1300 gets painful. Reforginator right now takes demonology to full mastery at the expense of haste.
Looking at the logs he sems to be missing any use of HoG which is huge and is not managing his dots uptime well. He looks like he is maybe used to playing a different spec?
I am not sure what spec he is used to playing. He is new to the group (and to raiding, believe). I think he's been just playing what the gm has been telling him to play.
Changing lock specs is not particularly easy. He needs to commit to one and study on it a good bit. I can bounce pretty well between destruction and demo but not afflction and the other two, and I've played a lock since vanilla. Looking at some of the meters I DO see his HoG so he IS using it some. There are several good addons on Curse that help with what to cast when and timing dots. He might want to browse there and see what people are saying.
demo isn't my forte, but is he using Power Auras or ForteXorcist or something similar? it might, and by that i mean almost certainly will, help with his uptimes.
that said, demo is considered the most challenging warlock spec to play, and they are all more or less balanced right now, so if he is struggling to learn demo and is more comfortable with afflic or destro, they are both viable options (i, myself, am running mainly destro currently. afflic, i believe, has the least buttons, also.) if he does want to stay demo, practice, practice! and Power Auras. i basically have my own power auras set up to show me what spells are off CD/DoTs are about to fall off/trinkets and procs are up, etc etc. it takes a lot of the guesswork out of spell priority, especially since there's often so much other stuff to worry about!
Looking at his fight pages it appears he is having a hard time managing his dot uptime. He really might need to read up on rotations again and pay very close attention to the concept of prioritization over exact rotation because the timing of lock dots does not sync up well with a rotation. Locks are not easy but they sure are fun :)
Should his dots be refreshed just as they fall off, or can they be refreshed early. I thought I read something, somewhere, that lock dots do a final bursty damage just as they expire.
used to be that clipping dots was way bad, now it is better to keep them up rather than risk them falling off for long in general. Of course best of all is to get the timing just right, but that takes alot of split decision action in fights, espcially movement fights. So the direct answer is refresh if you know you will not be able to for a little while due to movement but otherwise try to time it to hit them just as they fall off. That is the case for demo and destro, it may not be for affliction.
Not sure why he's using a Bane of Agony glyph, when a Metamorphosis glyph is clearly better for him. Also, I'd keep a stack of glyph powders around, following EJ's suggestion and using Incinerate for single-target fights and Shadow Bolt for multiple-target fights.
I'm taking a peek at that last link, the Ultraxion fight, and what I've noticed is an unusually low amount of Soul Fire and Incinerate Spells, and a crazy high amount of Shadow Bolt spells. I'd strongly suggest that he stop using Shadow Bolt (except when it procs from Corruption) and concentrate on Incinerate, using Hand of Guldan to keep Immolate up.
Just a few thoughts in that direction. Keep in mind that I haven't raided with a warlock since 4.1.
