I posted before I could formulate an actual comment lol. Forgive my previous comment deletion :(

I get the message behind the video, but "SexyNerdGirl" username doesn't really help her case. I don't really get it in WoW anymore, and I don't use my mic on XBox Live. PS3 and Wii doesn't really have that option. But, I'm probably one of the lucky ones and I'm sure it goes on with other girls.

My motto; pwn now, trash talk later.

I think the name is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but I could be wrong.

I like. :)

(And I also agree regarding what I now call myself. In my teens I stuck with girl gamer, but in my adulthood I've purposely started to refer to it as being a woman gamer/woman who games/etc.)

I usually just refer to myself as a gamer, without adding "girl" or "woman" or anything else.

Well, yes, but there are times when I have to differentiate for the conversation (not that I can think of any right now, but I don't make it a point to go around throwing out "I'm a woman~~ gamer").

I use the word "girl" the way I use the word "guy" so that doesn't bother me too much. I respect that others may not feel the same.

There was a post of this not too long ago. It's a good video, much better than a lot of others along the same lines.

I went through the "chick" wars of the late 60s, early 70s (I'll be 58 next week) and rebelling against the then common "men and girls". I wish that the popular t-shirt wasn't "Tank like a girl" as I would love to have one if it said woman.

My most recent personal "business" card says "Librarian, gamer, virtual worlds enthusiast, family historian, artist, vocalist, Wiccan and interfaith activist". No gender terms required for any of those things.

"Men and girls" still seems pretty common, although the even more vile "men and females" (female whats?) seems to have overtaken it.

I like the word "gal" for a "guy" equivalent. Boys and girls, guys and gals, men and women.

I like "x like a girl" because the insult is so often "you x like a girl."

Yeah I do, and that's why I'M AWESOME.

But otherwise I prefer woman, just because I'm an adult, not a girl. But I'll jump on "girl" when people want to use it as an insult.

Ack sorry! rowanf December 28 2011, 19:26:15 UTC
I read W-L most days and I scrolled back a couple of pages since I was in WoW more than on Lj the last week. My apologies.

I prefer to call myself a "Lady Gamer". It's elegant, and it makes trash-talk all the more hilarious. :D

It sort of gives me a vision of a very elegantly-dressed lady giving a beatdown with her specially modified parasol.
