I went through the "chick" wars of the late 60s, early 70s (I'll be 58 next week) and rebelling against the then common "men and girls". I wish that the popular t-shirt wasn't "Tank like a girl" as I would love to have one if it said woman.
My most recent personal "business" card says "Librarian, gamer, virtual worlds enthusiast, family historian, artist, vocalist, Wiccan and interfaith activist". No gender terms required for any of those things.
There was a post of this not too long ago. It's a good video, much better than a lot of others along the same lines.

I like the word "gal" for a "guy" equivalent. Boys and girls, guys and gals, men and women.

Yeah I do, and that's why I'M AWESOME.
But otherwise I prefer woman, just because I'm an adult, not a girl. But I'll jump on "girl" when people want to use it as an insult.
