Epic Gems and Guilds

I'm an officer and a raid leader in a 10 man progression guild and we've just been trying to sort out the whole epic gem situation and the below is what we decided and now I was curious what, if anything, are other guilds doing when it comes to epic gems ( Read more... )

Never even thought about needing a loot system for the new gems. A few of us got some last night. I got a yellow gem which I personally would never use since I'm a resto druid (I like haste, but not enough to gem straight haste) so I gave it to our DK tank who is all about the mastery. I think we were all of the mentality that if you get a gem that is good for you keep it, if not offer it up to another class that would benefit from it. It works for us. But I can totally understand why a hardcore guild would want to put rules in place for the gems to maximize their utility and the rules you posted seem fair.

My guild's pretty much the same way. Everyone is saving their gems for heroic-level gear and since we don't have a bench, we all get the same chance to find epic gems every night we raid.

Our raid team consists of 12 people so on nights where we have a full house, which is probably at least 75% of the time we have 2 people out each fight which was one of our major concerns in making sure epic gem distribution was fair. Side note time: I hate having to do line ups, it is my least favourite thing about being a raid leader, I hate having to sit people but we can't run only 10 people because we do have nights where people just can't make it (one of our raiders is a cop, a few have young kids, one does shift work, etc.) and pugging people sucks.

And ditto on the saving til heroic ilvl gear, though we may hand out gems for deathwing normal gear, we haven't decided yet. We actually put our first round of gems up on the AH for stupid high prices because if we can sell them for inflated prices in the first week and then go and buy double or triple the number of gems the week after that's a big yay.

My raid team is just selling their atm. Honestly, at 10k+ a pop right now, I would be too, IF I COULD GET AN EPIC. *shakes fist at the SIX geodes which all yielded...green quality gems*

It's crazy how much people are paying for these things. I just don't see how an extra 10 points to a stat is worth a few thousand gold. Especially since I am a jc and can wear some super gems.
