Resto druid healing in Battlegrounds

Nov 28, 2011 09:59

So, since my hordie troll drood just hit Outlands and is back at the "aaaargh no more HFP please please please" stage, I decided to try my hand at druid-healing in a battleground. I figured druids, with their insta-cast heals and shapeshift-runaway-runaway-runawaaaaaay and cat > prowl capability, would be more suited for battlegrounds than trying ( Read more... )

I use VuhDo to heal, and it's a click-to-heal add-on. Some people suggest Healbot or Clique or something else that's similar but supposedly easier to set up. Either way, it works like this ( ... )

This. A healing add-on is very helpful.
Here is a vid that I used to help me set up VuhDo.

Oh and:

Any tips for how to find BGs that Horde doesn't always lose all the time?

LOLOLOL. Now, let's not start with this stuff, okay? Statistics have only proved that Horde win more battlegrounds than Alliance overall. Not by a huge margin, but all battlegrounds but AV are Horde-dominated.

What you really have to do is find out the best times to queue. I like mornings-- 5am to 9am server!-- because I have good luck in battlegrounds then. There are times and stuff that just work better for each side it seems.

Ah, mornings! Alas, I am not a morning person, single tear. I'm either at work, or you better bet I'm face down in my pillow at that hour, hiding from the evil sunlight. >.>

Well, it might depend on your battlegroup, though! Usually any time before the kids get home from school is good. :P I'd say before 5pm usually, because once all the kids come home and finish their homework and log in...that's when you see a littttle more of the "WAH WE SUCK GUYS Y WE SUK SO BAD 4?!" crap.

If I'm on in the mornings it's because i have to be. I don't know why I'm still awake now. I'm so tired I should be napping. ;_;

Hmm. Before 5 PM sounds like a good strategy then! I'll give it a try tomorrow. :D And I'll also try downloading VuhDo.... I probably should do that anyway, since I'm getting to a point in the game where all my hybrid class toons are entering The Hellfire Peninsula Zone, so the only way to level them up is to dungeon and the only role I'm willing to do in a dungeon is to heal. (I don't have to wait ages for the queue and I don't have to know where I'm going! Hooray!)

I personally only heal bgs on my druid. No heroics or raids, just TB and BGs. I'd post a link to her armory, but i'm on my phone at work *coffcoff*. But for now, look up Quena on Steamwheedle Cartel.

Also, i'm with hooves as far as getting a click to heal addon. I use healbot since it has an option to remove people off the UI if they are out of range of my furthest heal.

The thing with low level healing is, expect to die. Heal as much as you can, if need be, use yourself as the swiftmend center and keep hots on yourself. Other than that...just keep moving :)

Thanks, that helps. :) In last night's BGing I experienced a lot of "healer guilt" when I would cheetah and run away, leaving my teammates to get shot at. But I didn't wanna die!

In general I've noticed that I get targeted for first kill less often on my druid than I did when I tried the same thing on my priest. Maybe because on first sight the enemy doesn't necessarily know that I'm a healing druid as opposed to some other kind? After the game went on for a while they started targeting me a lot more. >.>

I tried to make use of Roots in PVP but it takes so long to cast! :(

Tardy to the party, but Nature's Grasp is your friend as a healy (or any other kind) of druid. As a rogue, there is nothing - NOTHING - more frustrating than trying desperately to beat down a healer who roots me and runs every time I hit them! xD

If you can find a DPS friend around your level who wants to queue with you, I've found that helps somewhat. While at low levels people get 2shot a lot, so it's not as helpful, having a friend with you helping keep attackers off you do you can do your healing thing helps a lot.

The raid UI issue you're seeing is a bug that happens when someone leaves group/is replaced while you're in combat. I've had the same problem wit hte default raid UI in both BGs and dungeons and reloading the UI is unfortunately the only fix aside from running some sort of raid frame mod. Here's a post from a week or two ago about this issue. Comments might help you.As far as mana goes, I PvP heal a bit as a holy paladin, and PvP healing is just much much less mana-efficient than PvE healing because 1. You have to rely on more instants/fast casts to prevent being interrupted, and 2. damage coming in is less predictable and more intense than most PvE situations. I don't have any great suggestions since I don't PvP heal on my druid, but yeah, mana problems happen ( ... )

Thank you for the link to the prev post! That helps a lot. I might see about Xperl again, since I've used it before. >.>

(Also, my comment on paladins in the post above was not in any way meant to slight paladin healers! I only threw it in because the other character I'm leveling right now is a paladin, and when I tried to heal on her in a dungeon, I noticed that pallies have way less in the way of instants and rolling HoTs than druids do.)

Don't worry, I didn't take it as one. :) Just wanted to give my comment some context. (IE I don't know specifically from druid healing in PvP, but from generally healing in PvP on a class that is usually pretty mana efficient in PvE.)

I don't have a lot of experience PvPing as a druid, but what I do have as a level 72 healy druid is that instant casts are gold. Mana is always an issue in the early levels and it stinks.

My main PvPer though is my holy paladin lol. She's actually got a lot of mana but that came with endless grinding of gear. In the beginning without Resilience she died all.the.time -.-!

It's going to be frustrating sometimes, but it is a lot of fun if you really get into it! I tend to stick to flag carriers or bases. Never fails though, if you get abandoned you'll die if enough of the opposite faction find you, so stealth as often as you can!
