I need clarification lol

Alright so I've been playing WoW for a few months now (maybe like 3 or so). It took me a while to figure out what I like playing best and I have a bunch of alts mainly between 20 and 35. Anyhow, I recently got my Fury Worgen to 48 earlier today, but I'm sure I'll be 50 before I go to bed lol. I've been browsing through tumblr and I'm pretty ( Read more... )

Can you explain how they're different than other classes? I keep hearing things about runes and I'm slightly lost haha!

Runes are the resource used for major strikes, plus DKs have another resource in the form of runic power. So runic power is a bit like rage, except only some abilities have a runic power cost. The rest have a rune cost, so you start with two of each type of rune and you use them in different combos for abilities and they gradually refresh over time. You also spec to have other abilities proc a 'death rune' which is basically a rune that counts as any type. I'm not sure what to liken the rune system to, maybe a bit like managing a Rogue's combo points, but also not. It's fairly unique in wow ( ... )

I'm a horrible tank and I like playing DPS and I play fury on my warrior. I'm not big on PvP yet and I'm sticking to dungeons for the most part. I have a feeling I'm just going to have to play one to truly understand it lol.

Thanks, I'm starting to somewhat understand. I love dual-wielding though so I think I may just go with Frost when I do roll one. I'm actually excited to hit 55 so I can roll one!!

imo frost is much easier than unholy so i would suggest it. howling blast is such a good aoe.

Yeah I think I'm going to go frost. I don't like to tank (and I'll probably get everyone killed tbh haha) so blood won't be good and it sounds like unholy isn't even appealing to anyone really. Plus I like the fact that I'll be able to dual-wield with frost, for some reason I love dual-wielding which is why I probably stuck with my fury warrior longer than any of my other toons.

The other posters have already gone over the explanations of how DKs work, but I'd also add that it helped me a *lot* to get an addon that stuck the runes right under my character's feet so I could watch them directly. Something like MagicRunes, I'd say.

I don't think I'd recommend blood for starting out in dungeons, though, since you mention you're not an experienced tank. That on top of learning a new class at 55 could be difficult. Go unholy (or my personal rec: frost) for dps purposes and see if you like it. However, if you're mainly going to be soloing, blood is nice for selfheals.

Thank you for the suggestions! :)
I think I'm going to go on youtube and watch some videos of Frost & Unholy DKs and try to get an idea of them both and see which I seem to like more.

Late to the party, but I've been primarily an Unholy DK since Wrath. Though for one reason or another, my DKs keep petering out around 73 (probably because I have attention span issues), so there's your disclaimer?

I know people keep saying Unholy's been nerfed, and that may be true relative to other specs in endgame, I've never gotten that far. It can be a little slower when you first start out of the gate and if the idea of managing a pet makes you go @_@, then I'd pass on it. My belf DK is dual specced Unholy/Frost, and while Frost mows down mobs faster, I really have to watch her health bar when she's in Frost, because she's taking all the hits, whereas when she's in Unholy, her pet takes most of the hits. Since I do a lot of my leveling by way of solo questing, having a perma-ghoul is a definite plus. Also, Unholy gives you a talent that gives first a 50%, then a 100% chance to cancel the remaining cooldown on Death Grip upon killing your target. So her time in Outlands has been a lot of "death grip, disease, disease, death ( ... )

So I hit 55 this morning and made a Nelf DK and I ended up going Frost. At first it was pretty confusing figuring out how the runes work but I'm slowly starting to get the hang of it and so far I'm enjoying it. I've made a lock before and I didn't really like playing her and I have a 32 hunter that's just sitting around mainly because I got sick of having a pet and getting bitched at if my pet went off somewhere and accidentally pulled something lol so I'm going to pass on the pets for a while. What's the best way to send money from an alt, I've never actually done that before. The only issue I've been having so far is that I've been dying pretty quickly when hit from mobs ngl. =/ I'm not sure if that's just a level thing or what.

Starting out can be something of a bitch, the some of those Crusaders can really hit hard. As soon as you get Death Strike, add that into the rotation right after diseases and then any time it's off CD, since it'll give you back some health. If you feel like you're taking too many hits, you can try raising a time-limited ghoul to take the heat off of yourself for a bit. As you replace the greens with blues, it should get better.

As long as it's the same server, mail it to yourself. I can't remember if Cata added a mailbox to Acherus or if you have to use the one available in the field.

Yeah I can't even recall how many times I died. Most of my gear had 0 durability at one point and I had to go back and repair them lol. I'm not going to lie, I kept forgetting about using my ghoul in combat haha! I got past the starting point eventually though. Thanks for all the advice! :)
