I need clarification lol

Alright so I've been playing WoW for a few months now (maybe like 3 or so). It took me a while to figure out what I like playing best and I have a bunch of alts mainly between 20 and 35. Anyhow, I recently got my Fury Worgen to 48 earlier today, but I'm sure I'll be 50 before I go to bed lol. I've been browsing through tumblr and I'm pretty ( Read more... )

Late to the party, but I've been primarily an Unholy DK since Wrath. Though for one reason or another, my DKs keep petering out around 73 (probably because I have attention span issues), so there's your disclaimer?

I know people keep saying Unholy's been nerfed, and that may be true relative to other specs in endgame, I've never gotten that far. It can be a little slower when you first start out of the gate and if the idea of managing a pet makes you go @_@, then I'd pass on it. My belf DK is dual specced Unholy/Frost, and while Frost mows down mobs faster, I really have to watch her health bar when she's in Frost, because she's taking all the hits, whereas when she's in Unholy, her pet takes most of the hits. Since I do a lot of my leveling by way of solo questing, having a perma-ghoul is a definite plus. Also, Unholy gives you a talent that gives first a 50%, then a 100% chance to cancel the remaining cooldown on Death Grip upon killing your target. So her time in Outlands has been a lot of "death grip, disease, disease, death coil, rune-based-face-ba-- oh, it's dead. NEXT!" XD (as Unholy, there's also a talent that gives your ghoul a boost when you cast death coil (plus the talent that causes it to infect the target with a third disease), so I use it as soon as I have the runic power, which, if I'm chain-pulling through an area, is pretty early in the rotation)

That said, Blizz is STILL having intermittent pathing issues with pets, so if you're planning to level through the LFD tool, I'd suggest going Frost. You won't have the permapet, but you'll be putting out more direct DPS, as opposed to Unholy's multiple DoTs.

The rune system sounds intimidating, but I've found it's pretty easy to settle into a rhythm. The first five levels or so, you may end up sitting on your autoattacking thumbs, just because there's a limited number of abilities you have at that point, and half of them take two runes. It gets better, though, especially once abilities have a chance of proccing free casts (Frost has two procs, Unholy just one).

Some other things to keep in mind: always runeforge your weapons as soon as possible! Also, since you start at 55, training costs also start at lvl55 costs. So do most quest rewards, but chances are money will still be tight at first (unless you can send yourself some from another toon), so train the skills you definitely need first. Once you're out in the world, DKs make excellent farmers; depending on your server's economy, you could make a good chunk before even hitting Outlands just by leveling Mining/Herbalism to 300, and selling the stacks on the AH.

So I hit 55 this morning and made a Nelf DK and I ended up going Frost. At first it was pretty confusing figuring out how the runes work but I'm slowly starting to get the hang of it and so far I'm enjoying it. I've made a lock before and I didn't really like playing her and I have a 32 hunter that's just sitting around mainly because I got sick of having a pet and getting bitched at if my pet went off somewhere and accidentally pulled something lol so I'm going to pass on the pets for a while. What's the best way to send money from an alt, I've never actually done that before. The only issue I've been having so far is that I've been dying pretty quickly when hit from mobs ngl. =/ I'm not sure if that's just a level thing or what.

Starting out can be something of a bitch, the some of those Crusaders can really hit hard. As soon as you get Death Strike, add that into the rotation right after diseases and then any time it's off CD, since it'll give you back some health. If you feel like you're taking too many hits, you can try raising a time-limited ghoul to take the heat off of yourself for a bit. As you replace the greens with blues, it should get better.

As long as it's the same server, mail it to yourself. I can't remember if Cata added a mailbox to Acherus or if you have to use the one available in the field.

Yeah I can't even recall how many times I died. Most of my gear had 0 durability at one point and I had to go back and repair them lol. I'm not going to lie, I kept forgetting about using my ghoul in combat haha! I got past the starting point eventually though. Thanks for all the advice! :)
