1.) I'll have the unpopular opinion and say - sure, why not! Especially when someone needs to level a profession they "need" them and and don't just turn them into profit. I don't mind people needing on mats, though I myself don't do that (only have Enchanting/Tailoring anyway). I don't think it's worth the fuss.
2.) If you agree to 1) you have to agree to this as well, since you specified "in order to further their profession? ".
2. a.) I don't think so. If you need on BoE equip you can't sell it on the AH anyway.
The only profession item I think the person WITH the prof should have priority on it patterns/designs/schematics/whatevers... If you can link the prof showing that you can (or will in a reasonable amount of time be able to - not going to deny it for someone five points too low for example) USE the pattern that takes priority over someone wanting to sell it, for ANY profession

Gear items, yes. That's why I said you don't run into that so much on gear any more - wasn't sure if they'd made it that way for low levels or not as well since a lot of level cap adjustments haven't been applied to lower level dungenos. I don't believe that mats have the same bind on Need though, so it's still entirely possible to run into stuff someone's rolled need on listed within moments of leaving the dungeon. I absolutely LOVE the Need=BOP change for gear for exactly that reason!
1)If a jc/blacksmith/engineer is running, I'd expect them to need on gems. Even if jc's can blow up ore. It's their profession. Makes sense to me.
2)and oddly for this one, I go the other way. That's why the need/greed/de exists. If there's an enchanter, people should be hitting de and everyone gets a chance on the mats. Enchants are needed by everyone so everyone should get the chance to roll on those mats. Enchanters that need on gear to de are just as bad as ninjas imo.
3) When the roll comes up, if there's an enchanter in the party, everyone gets the choice to de or not.. I think Needs should only be used on gear if you're gonna wear it. Otherwise, it's ninja'ing.
personally, I greed on gems when I was lvling my JC. If I noticed that there was someone else who was a JC, I would asked if s/he and I would alternate between needing so like, I'd need the first one and s/he'll need the second one.
