Hi ladies and gents!
This is a simple question, but the response might not be so simple! In lowbie dungeons it's always a constant battle against people in your own party. As unfortunate as that is, sometimes a simple, "I'd rather you didn't need on that," or, "You should hit Need if you NEED it!" can really go a long way.
However, I can't help but wonder at the feelings of the general populace of WoW when I'm asked for my opinion in a random (or elsewhere). I might feel a certain way about things, but other people might feel completely different! And though I can defend my side, I'd sure like to see them defend theirs in return-- so I can see where they're coming from.
So my biggest issue these days is gems. Is it all right to click "Need" on a gem?
I've told Jewelcrafters to hit Need. On my JCers, I've hit Need.
I've gotten flak for hitting Need and so have others in dungeons, and I usually defend them for hitting need if they are, indeed, a JCer. (Linking the profession absolves conflict some of the time in this case.)
We wouldn't be given a need/greed option if some people didn't need it and others not. So I assume if I am regularly using gems for my profession, I should be allowed to hit need on something-- same with silver ore/bars or anything else that pops up with a need/greed option in a dungeon! (Also, PATTERNS.)
But is there anyone who feels that JCers shouldn't have the right to hit Need on gems? And if so, why do you feel this way?

And for part ii, how do you feel about the enchanters who think they should be allowed to roll Need on all greens/blues that nobody else wants-- for the sake of DEing. While I would be okay with that in a guild group (guild enchanter), I am NOT okay with that being done in a random.
But I'm not sure why. Are we all entitled to the possibility of profiting from a BoE green or the gold from selling an unwanted blue? Why, then, do I scoff at the people who want an "equal chance at procuring a gem" for what is, essentially, also just profit? (i.e., why do I feel it's okay to hit Need on a gem for a profession, but not greens that nobody actually needs?)

So, ladies and gents, my questions:
1.) How do you feel about Jewelcrafters rolling Need on gems? (Or blacksmiths if they're trying to get over the Star Ruby hump?)
2.) Is it okay for an Enchanter to roll Need on gear nobody Needs in order to further their profession?
2. a.) Does it make a difference if this is a BoE green or a BoP blue?
Thanks in advance for your answers! I realize none of this probably matters much "at the level cap" but it does affect a lot of new players, and I'd prefer to guide people in the right way-- not one that's going to get them yelled at in every dungeon they go in.
