Hi! I get emails when new posts come up in the community. I have to admit that I automatically fail to read those without a title. I read yours because it sounded important! I barely use LJ for anything, personally. I wouldn't mind notices on twitter and/or Facebook for important notes, but I would not want to see things like "new member intro" or "Tuesday post" coming at me from three directions.
As far as I'm concerned, LiveJournal works as well as anything. If you migrated, I would want it to be something that could send me emailed updates, since I don't want to open an extra webpage every day and I have too many Facebook friends so that some updates end up getting lost.
Social media updates would likely not be automatic, so it would be officers picking what ends up being broadcasted across the board :) some stuff isn't appropriate for social media spam, like tuesday posts or introduction posts as you said.
I certainly check Facebook more, and if we had officers posting things like "Raid friday, yada yada heres link to sign up" im much more likely to see it and respond vs. remembering to check LJ.
Yeah if we were going to do social media updates we wouldn't be able to stick with just one thing - just have to find what suits 90% of the guild and make sure we are broadcasting there. So for some people they might get hit a couple of times, but there's just no one social media network that everyone uses, as you said :)
Not that I am around much atm in DotA.. hopefully soon once I get my other toon to 90 on my other server, but I tend to check LJ more when I am at work then at home on the weekends. If there was a website/forum (like CoD) I would probably check it the same amount of time as I do LJ or really any other type of Social Media. Definitely don't like the in game calendar for raids and stuff (if that comes up).
I think any type of forum/social media/etc would turn out the same with views since all of them require to log on and remember to check things, so weither LJ or a forum or twitter.. people need to make the effort to check them.
Yeah, if we were using the in-game calendar for stuff, it would only be to supplement out-of-game things. Too many people need to be able to access stuff like that while they are away from home, and logging in is not always an option :)
but rly though I think we should have a few people that are in charge of different media outlets for important announcements like raid signups and things like have someone handle facebook, someone with twitter, someone on tumblr, etc who posts a link to the LJ post about it so more people notice what's going on. Half the time when I forget to sign up for raid's it's because I didn't think to check LJ since DotA is literally all I use it for.

I mean... yeah. I can be reached easiest on Facebook (and sometimes Tumblr)
When in doubt, search 'Pyrefangs' 9 times out of 10? It's me.
