So you know what's almost as good as an orange? A pluot. I used to think i was pronounced with a silent t, but then I realized that it's a cross between an apricot and a plum, and it's really not getting a fancy name or anything like that. There are a lot of different types, though, and the skin can range from red to purple to orange to kinda green ( Read more... )

I never have! We had enough trouble with normal crops, so I don't think making...hybrids was much of a priority for anyone.

Maybe you could ask the Admiral for some seeds? Or you could try the CES for trees that are already there, but...does it count as being manmade if it's a tree as well?

[IDEK if they'd cultivated apricots by then, but this is a show which features tomatoes despite their absence from Britain until the 16th century, so clearly this is a canon with no fucks to give.]

[ALL FRUITS WERE ALWAYS AROUND FOREVER, the end.] They have to make the trees grow the fruit. Pluots grow on trees. Small ones, usually, but they're pretty cool. I don't know that they'll show up in the wild, though.

Not that it wouldn't be awesome.

Have you ever tried grapples? It's not a hybrid, but your post made me think of them. Mostly because I'm not sure why a person would aspire to make grape-flavored apples.

You know, I haven't. They kind of freak me out.

Not sure why, because I'm all over pluots. But grapples just make me think of apples bathing in Welch's.

I think that's pretty much what they are. I never tried it, either. The point of them eludes me.

Ditto. It's not even a real hybrid, it's just...Well I guess it's people being innovative, so that isn't really bad...
