Gus was taking it easy. He was sitting in the kitchen with his chair rocked back onto two legs, one foot against the edge of the table and a book across his knees. He was still in a remarkably good mood, and, when he reached for his coffee, he found that he was whistling.

It had taken two showers to get the smell of the jungle off of his skin and out of his hair and his bedsheet, which he had been rather fond of, was pretty much fit for burning and nothing else. Gus should have known, on reflection, that everything was going too well. He'd felt like he was settling in on the island (how different, after all, was one island from another, really?).
