From Superherohype:Just a few days after this article was posted, Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov has told The Wall Street Journal that the studio is going to be reintroducing Superman. We assume this will be similar to how Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk was a reboot of Ang Lee's Hulk. Here is what the article says:

I wouldn't mind a reboot at all, but are they going to keep Brandon Routh? I loved him as Superman.

I hope so too! I thought SR was pretty good but I liked Routh as Superman more. :)

There are a lot of conflicting reports out there right now in addition to this, which, overall, point to the studio taking the SR sequel in a different, darker direction, *without* rebooting anything.

I have a full analysis (complete with links to all pertinent source material) on my LJ.

I love how 215 million is disappointing....poor Superman, you get no love anymore. You aren't dark enough!

I thought Returns was a reboot but I guess not. Well I say stop with the rebooting and get to a team up movie of some kind before people decide DC is too old school.

I think a team up with how popular Dark Knight was would be a great way to save Sups rather than stuggling to find his niche in yet another single hero movie. Nothing like Batman to show off Clark's good side.

Here's the newsarama link and I'm cool with a reboot and all (as long as we have Brandon back) but here's what I'm not so sure about.

Something else that might not sit right with some fans is Robinov’s determination to explore the darker side of super-heroes: “We’re going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it.”Um sure Superman's past is a little dark (planet blew up, only survivor, sometimes alienated) but I hope they aren't going to take the grim and gritty approach because that's not Superman and whoever attempts that should have the character taken away from them ( ... )

Yeah, sorry I missed that Newsarama link. I think I would have posted that before posting Superherohype's link but I didn't see that until way later, when I was catching up with my flist.

I agree, I don't want a darker Superman in a Superman movie, but in my opinion it'd be interesting to watch a dark movie where the villains are doing what they do best. Then suddenly comes in this bright, iconic handsome superhero to save the day, and you can't help but grin giddily to yourself as Superman does what he does best. I'd love that. :)

Yeah, I only trust Geoff Johns to write a great Superman script. I'm interested to see what Mark Miller would do, but I don't trust him enough to write a Superman movie script.
