ITEM! like most everybody else i've been enjoying the euro 2008 footy - but every time i watch it on itv1 my heart sinks - do we really need david pleat's e.l.wisty style "analysis" sucking the life out of anything interesting happening on the pitch? - obv i'm biased against anyone with a t*tt*nh*m gonnection but his dull monotone whine makes him ( Read more... )

Ooooh, some of that New Gods book sounds rather good, though I may not investigate it just yet, don't want to risk a Darkseid OD.

I cannot even bring myself to attempt One More Day but dire as it sounds, it has at least opened the way for Dan Slott's bits of Brand New Day, the only Spider-Man tales which come even within sight of the enjoyment I get from Bendis' Ultimate Spider-Man.

fyi the other artists in that tales of the new gods tpb are: dave gibbons, erik larsen, howard chaykin, art adams, jim lee, john paul leon, ron randall & al milgrom

( most of the stories are written by simonson or byrne )

one more day: i dunno why they just didn't use mephisto's hocus pocus to swap round proper spider-man ( married to MJ ) & other spider-man ( ie ultimate version ) while keeping the rest of their respective universes the same - possibly cos the ultimate universe isn't long for this world w/jeph loeb in charge, i spose

still, i'm looking forward at some point soonish to reading a gollection of ultimate spidey w/out having mine eyes offended by the horrible mark bagley art ( - yay - stuart immonen - yay )

dan slott: i haven't read any brand new day stories yet but his spidey/torch miniseries "i'm with stupid" was great fun imo

Loeb may be about to foul up the rest of the Ultimate U, and possibly take the Supreme Power U down with it, but I don't think he'll be allowed anywhere near USM - that title is Bendis' baby, and there's no mileage for Marvel in upsetting Bendis when he's writing so many of their bestsellers.

I don't find Bagley's art as offensive as many, but Immonen is undeniably better.

Sometimes, out of the blue, I find myself thinking of the Spider-Mobile episode of that miniseries and chuckling.

Grr, Liefeld and Loeb. They make me sad.

Also: Quesada used to have a great, strange style. Now it's ugly and strange. What the shit, Joe?

- i spose i admire rob liefeld in a way - i just never ever want to look at his "artwork" - also i dunno exactly what jeph loeb does on heroes but i'm still enjoyin' that

i expect quesada's a very busy bee w/the editing & can't spend as much time as he used to on his drawings ( - if that's the case, then don't do 'em...! ) - he's the best marvel editor in chief since roy thomas tho, imo

Weakest Link Blue Peter special? That's one they'd never air here. Valerie who? Peter what?

There may have been some similar US show but I can't think of a specific.

A couple of years ago in an earlier nostalgia fit I was looking up Web info on BP from "my" day, the Val-Pete-and-John era. (Just occured to me: one day someone will be looking up Weakest Link as nostaligia. Aghh. Get me my rocking chair.)

apparently john noakes was on it as well but was the 2nd person to be voted off so i missed him - he's a bit of an ole gurmugeon these days, i think - praps i should have put up a spoiler warning in case it does somehow make it over to yr neck of the woods

( there was a dr who weakest link special a while back too - i won't say "who" won it tho )
