I didn't do this while in Australia but many of my fellow backpackers did a working holiday in Australia to extend their visa.
I remember someone mentioned that if you go into farm work you will get time off to go on holiday and they want (their word) you to come over to work on the stations/farms because the aussie's won't.
Many of them were working on plantations and some received sponsorships from companies to come over and work full-time, travelling on their weeks off.
I'm not sure about asia (I'm in Singapore airport just now) but I do know that it's feasible in Western Australia.
