India to China

Dec 17, 2007 19:50

Is there a good way to get from northern India to China overland? As far as as I know, there are no trains... Are there buses? Anything going through Nepal?

I am talking about February, so it will probably be snowy/wintry.

We are not easily scared, so rough travel is all right as long as it is plausible.

Thanks!

This is the title of an article that was in the New York Times over the summer: Last Stop, Lhasa: Rail Link Ties Remote Tibet to China

I didn't want to post the full text here because of length. Search for "lhasa" on www.newyorktimes.com to find the full text.

I know of this rail, but it only runs within China. I'm interested is anything that connects India and China.

Here's the article, btw: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/02/world/asia/02tibet.html

You can go from Tibet to Nepal to India, but I don't think it's possible to do in the opposite direction (maybe if you pay a lot to join a tour group). As far as I know traveling directly between China and India overland is not possible at all.
