The Pants are Back: A Revision Post

May 24, 2011 22:14

Monday afternoon I finally finished the latest round of revisions on StT.

This time the pants fit, thanks to a great critique partner at the March Novel Writing Retreat. Laurie Miller made a suggestion that allowed me to cut the extra-large pants down to size--StT is finally under 300 pages. What I have now looks a lot like Katherine Hepburn:

I'm so glad to hear all of this. Every last word of it. Including the adding and cutting and cake and candles and the notion that it might just might come my way this summer.

Keep Calm and Carry On.

I would be most happy to send it to you over the summer. I'll let you know as soon as it's ready. Fresh eyes on it--especially when they're as savvy as yours--will be most welcome.

About your song choice there - I laugh every time that song is mentioned. When I was a teen, my mother started singing it in the car one night, and I misheard the lyrics. We both still get hysterical to the point of tears when we talk of it together.

What she sang: "When the moon shines o'er the cow shed"
What I heard: "When the moon shines or the cow shit"

LOL!

Hah! What a lovely mondegreen. Erm, not lovely exactly, but it makes perfect sense.

My dad used to sing that song to me, just to get a "Da-ad," when I was Ramona Quimby's age.

Humming...with all the breaks in between it's felt more like a driving a road during "mud season," that is to say, some stretches have definitely flown, but others I've had to slow down to a crawl.

But thanks!
