AURORA: Aurora season is pretty much over now. We only have a very narrow window of darkness now, and I'm not staying up for it. Last week, I went for a long drive with two photographer friends. We ended up driving 50 miles up the Steese Hwy, where we could find dark skies and no power lines. The trees look a little soft in some of the photos. The ( Read more... )

The aurora pictures are beautiful. I must be learning something about photography as I now understand what you mean about the trees being a little soft....can see it and understand how a breeze and long exposure make it impossible for really sharp pictures.

The homecoming pictures are so wonderful. The "heart" photo is truly a treasure. I have tears in my eyes as I type this. My hubby was in the military for more than 30 years and we had many such home comings. Your photographs brought back beautiful memories and I wish that I had a friend like you to take pictures back then. Thank you for sharing.

Even the slightest wind, making the trees move, is going to translate into softness. It's disappointing when the wind is blowing, but still a magical event.

The homecoming was so special. I'm happy that I could be there to witness it. It's been more than 5 years since I went through that with my husband, and it still touches my emotions so strongly.

Oh wow .. can't decide which is more beautiful .. the aurora or soldier Jay's homecoming .. what a truly amazing experience. I didn't realize that the soldiers all march in like that .. that's got to be something to see personally .. thanks for sharing these pictures with me :)

Thank you.

The soldiers always come into the building in formation, while the army band plays patriotic music. Then there's a speech. Sometimes the speech is longer than it needs to be - much to the chagrin of the waiting family and friends. Sometimes it's short and to the point. On this day, the commander said "Go see your family!". All hell broke loose as they went in search of their wives, parents, friends, children... I love homecomings!
