Same guy, new suit

Saw Iron Man 2 this afternoon. Enjoyed it. Thumbs up. It was loud, it was flashy, it was comic-booky. Perhaps it didn't quite carry the emotional depth of the first one, but that's because the first one had the origin story, and Iron Man's got a pretty good origin story. I liked it so much. Thought it was better than the first, which I didn't think was all that great shakes outside of RDJ's performance and "the Avenger Initiative".

I did think Terrance Howard was a bad choice for Rhodey - it's the wimpy voice of his, really - but I can't believe anyone ever had any doubts about Don Cheadle. He's DON CHEADLE. Of course he'll be awesome, even if it wasn't absolutely necessary to recast him.

When the post-credit sequence played you could hear this wave of people catching on and going, "Thor!" "Thor!" "I think that's Thor." It was funny. I, having to be the uber-geek, pumped my fist and stage whispered, "Mjolnir!"

In the final scene of the movie proper, you can see a TV monitor on which they're running the news report of the Hulk's rampage at Culver University from The Incredible Hulk, which means most of this movie is a prequel to that movie. Which also means that in the space of less than a week, New York suffered through the destruction of the Stark Pavilion in Flushing Meadows and the ( ... )

I admit that it's possible that when I saw the crater in the desert, I suspected there was going to be a hammer in it. Furthermore, it's possible that I said, "I knew it!" in a reasonably audible voice when said hammer was revealed.
