To the point they need to have Susan, step-mom, who I love, appointed guardian. He can no longer sign his name ( Read more... )

Sorry to hear about the pain you're experiencing right now. Alzheimer's is a cruel disease. My grandfather succumbed to it about four years ago. It makes everyone involved feel helpless because there is nothing anyone can do except make the person as comfortable as possible.

Spend as much time as you can with him. And remember to think about how wonderful he is and has been all these years. That's truly important. Big hugs.

Thanks Vinny. I do remember all the good times and that is what ususally starts the waterworks. *sigh* Why are we gay men so sensitive? *g*

Thanks. I will. I actually think I am at the fourth stage. Shock, pain and guilt, anger have been and are still being dealt with. Depression, reflection, and loneliness have been a big part of the past day and last night.
Maybe a shirtless cowboy picture would shock me out of it. *g*
How is your son and his recovery from surgery going?

Donald ... So much sad news amidst the celebration of a birthday. Perhaps, you can visit those places that your father has shared with you, in chats and memories, and see them through your eyes as well as his. The dream doesn't need to end; it will just be with a difference.

You've been strongly in my thoughts ... Tim and I were driving down to Madison on Monday and I was speaking about you. We hadn't seen you on LJ in a long time and I was thinking about you on your birthday. This update explains a lot of what's going on. Just know that I am holding you close in my heart as you negotiate impending events.

Hugs,
Neil

Thanks Neil. I have a tendency to shut down when things get overwhelming. I'm gonna try journaling every day to help work out some of the feelings and get through these events.

Thank you dear. I'm sorry I did not get a card out to you for your birthday. I did get yours and it put a smile on my face for a while.
