Finally, Yule

Hoo boy, was that a crazy busy event! The L.C. and I were on the go pretty much every minute from 10am to 10pm, along with just about everyone else involved. We spent the morning in order meetings and greeting as many people as we could; then the L.C. went to talk to the fighters and brewers and I went to help judge the arts and sciences ( Read more... )

I am reliably informed that there is a log book kept by the Crowns of Calontir, a sort of Book of Operating Procedures for The Crown, passed down from one set to the next. It has what went right, what went wrong, problems and solutions, the whole nine yards.

I could well see that such a Book might be a good thing for baronies as well, containing, among other things, an "event template....a list of some business [to be conducted] in the future", logistics, suggestions on when to have retainers switch off, orders that the Baron and Baroness Must Be Fed despite their objections, etc., etc., etc. ad nauseam.

I think that's an excellent idea. We have a copy of the baronial event history, but OPs would be very useful.

Hee! There is plenty to be said for checklists. One of the things that t_bard is fond of saying is that rocket science is really composed of long, experience-driven checklists (implying not so much brain-this-on-the-fly). You too can achieve rocket-science-level!

I had nothing to fault in your performance as B&B. My experience of the event was that you're settling into your role and are generally more comfortable and - dare I say it - "regal", using a mundane term which you may translate to mean "baronial".

I want to add that at your investiture I managed to acquire someone who was willing to stand in the dayboard line to acquire foods for me, and then h3salthea took charge of me to make me sit down in a quiet spot and actually eat said foods when I was starting to act seriously wifty and indecisive (which categorically signals that I am tired or low-blood-sugar or both). It was exactly what I needed.

Thank you!

Yeah, h3salthea rocks. :) Eating when you need to is an excellent idea...

Was fun :) I like the index card system for Court, and will have some on me from now on ;) I think keeping a Book would be good, too, though we'll have to tart it up nice and proper if it's going to be a legacy...
