I TRIED TO POST THIS EARLIER AND LJ FAILED ON ME. Dammit eljay the one time I want to make a post and you're broken ;_;

I bring you SKETCHBOOK PAGES. With Marion, JGL's hair, and exploding ink experimentation.. YES. You heard me.. I finally used my sumi brush.. IDK WHAT I WAS WAITING FOR BC IT IS FAB. Here we go. This is the journal I posted about last time and I'd like to think that it has (I have?) made some decent progress since!

Marion is SO BEAUTIFUL and amazing and lovely and etc etc in Public Enemies. And this is her with a tad bit of the fabulous fur coat Johnny's character gives her. I feel like the likeness is a bit off because of the side profile? Meh. Anyway.

So this was for the JGL Wispy Hair Challenge I threw over at my tumblr. The only reason that actually happened is because I have artist friends who like to indulge my ridiculous whims! HIS HAIR WAS SUPPOSED TO BE WISPIER. But I tried inking it (which is new for me, I've never inked my drawings) using my calligraphy pen too and the hair lost a bit of its wispiness. You musttt GO SEE the other entries because they are seriously amazing. MY FRIEND DREW HIM WITH MEDUSA HAIR. OR I SHOULD SAY SNAKES. It is the greatest thing ever.

And now sketchbook pages.. TONS OF MESSY ACRYLICS AND INK ETC.

(this is a.. IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD THE NEW DEATH CAB SONG THEN look at your life and look at your choices) Also FLOURISHES how do they work ;_; I swear one day I will learn.. they are so much harder than the actual calligraphy for me.. (they're the little swirls that usually decorate really elaborate calligraphy)

Sketchbook context of the JGL drawing! Matches the other page.

Painted my notes from the Mark Bradford exhibit I saw earlier this month.

Inner cover page. It's from my favorite Amelie quote and it reads times are hard for dreamers.

OH AND LAST ONE.

I had originally intended to do JGL's wispy hair in this style before I went a little mad with the acrylics and ink. There's a Spanish illustrator called Conrad Roset who I've fallen madly in love with and want to emulate in every possible way. This was my attempt at the style he usually uses with watercolors. If I'm motivated enough maybe I'll do the JGL drawing I had in mind...

THAT'S IT FOR NOW. HOPE YOU LIKED :D
