I'm not sure why I'd never gone to the St. Patrick's Day parade before yesterday. Maybe it's because I was born in the suburbs, so South Boston seems like a whole other country. But everything about it appeals to me except for the not-allowing-gays thing. The parade mainly consists of firemen, drunk people, and men in kilts. (Plus some drunk ( Read more... )

Tessie was the rallying cry of Boston fans in the early part of the 20th century. The Dropkick Murphys are an Irish punk band from Boston, and they re-recorded the song 100 years later (2004) and it became the Red Sox theme song again. A lot of people think that it helped the team win the World Series. Here's a wikipedia entry about it if you are interested.

Oh, I thought of you at the parade because I was walking behind this group of firemen from Yonkers for a while, and everyone seemed to be all excited to see them. People were giving them beer and saying, "Hey! Yonkers! Alright!" I couldn't really understand why. I wanted to say, "They are probably Yankees fans! What the hell!?" After a while, they all went into someone's house for a party.

Heh. Yonkers has a huge Irish contingent, so maybe that's why people were excited to see them.

Woo-hoo! My co-worker just told me the Sox traded Arroyo, though. Boo. I kinda liked him. And the guy they got seems mediocre. Hopefully, I'll make it to Fenway this year! Last year the only Sox game I saw was in Texas.

That's a good idea. I've always wanted to see Camden Yards anyway. My brother is gonna be in DC this summer, so that could work out well.
